Dear Friends of JCYC,
The Japanese Community Youth Council is coordinating efforts with other organizations in San Francisco’s Japantown to support the victims of the Northern Japan earthquake and tsunami. I am sure that all of you share our deep concern for the thousands who have been tragically affected by this devastating disaster. We know that many are seeking ways to assist with the relief efforts and wanted to provide the following information.
The Japanese Community and Cultural Center of Northern California (JCCCNC) has established the Northern Japan Earthquake Relief Fund. Over $130,000 of donations has already been sent to some of the most affected areas to provide water, food, blankets and shelter supplies. 100% of the donations received are going directly to citizen relief efforts through the National YMCAs of Japan and other Non-Governmental Organizations. No fees will be taken out by the JCCCNC or the organizations in Japan; funds will go to the people who need it most. At this time, the JCCCNC is only accepting monetary donations. All donations are tax deductible to the extent of the law. Please no relief goods or supplies at this time.
To donate, please visit the JCCCNC website: www.jcccnc.org or call at: (415) 567-5505, checks can also be sent to the Japanese Cultural and Community Center of Northern California at 1840 Sutter Street, San Francisco, CA. 94115. Checks can be made out to: “The Northern Japan Earthquake Relief Fund.” All donations will be acknowledged.
Through the Northern Japan Earthquake Relief Fund, there is a three-fold plan over the next several months:
- Relief (Meeting immediate life saving and survival needs)
- Recovery (Sustainability, Temporary Shelters, Post Traumatic Stress Counseling, Supplies for Children, Families and Seniors)
- Rebuilding (Community and Neighborhood Capital and Improvement Projects and Programs)
What ever you can do to support the relief efforts in Japan is sincerely appreciated.
Please note that additional information is also available through the following Facebook Causes page: Websites, fundraising events and other information will be posted on a regular basis.
Several U.S. mobile and landline phone service providers are also offering free phone and text services from the U.S. to Japan for the next few weeks to help people connect with their loved ones overseas. Details can be found in the press releases below.
