NCI Workplans

NCI wants to see good relationships develop between Japanese American community organizations and their interns. The program requires community groups interested in hosting interns to submit workplans to help match interns and organizations.

Meaningful projects that allow interns to be a part of the planning process and provide opportunities for significant interaction with members of the organization are two of the most important components of NCI.

Taking notes, making photocopies, entering data and serving coffee are important tasks in the day-to-day work of any organization, but NCI interns should be challenged with projects that are unique to serving our community.

Past projects have included:

  • web and database development
  • working with kids at a day camp
  • community outreach and education
  • special events coordination
  • a campaign to build a recreation center in Little Tokyo

Over the last six years, 77 interns have been matched with various community groups groups based on the applicants' interests and the organizations' needs:
