Workplans
NCI
wants to see
good relationships develop between Japanese American community
organizations and their interns. The program requires community groups
interested in hosting interns to submit workplans to help match interns
and organizations.
Meaningful
projects that allow interns to be a part of the planning process and
provide opportunities for significant interaction with members of the
organization are two of the most important components of NCI.
Taking
notes, making photocopies, entering data and
serving coffee are important tasks in the day-to-day work of any
organization, but NCI interns should be challenged with projects that
are unique to serving our community.
Past projects have included:
- web and
database development
- working with kids at a day camp
- community outreach and education
- special events coordination
- a campaign to build a recreation center in Little
Tokyo
Over the
last six years, 77 interns have been matched with various community
groups groups based on the applicants' interests and the organizations'
needs:
The
following are examples of past NCI workplans:
|
NCI
2005: Socal interns spending some time with the
vets of Go For Broke.
NCI
2003: Eric Nakano shaking hands with Rev. Al
Sharpton.
NCI
2002: All the interns with Jon Osaki of the
Japanese Community Youth Council (JCYC).
