The Little Tokyo Shopping
Center, on the corner of Third and Alameda, was just bought by a Korean
American investment group. They haven't decided what to do with the
propery yet, but they definitely want to change it. Two of their
choices involve turning the mall into a Korean themed center with
market, electronics store, and spa, or turn it into an American themed
center with a big name market like Ralphs. You can read more details in
the LA Times news article here.
If you would like to
sound off on the subject, you can visit our forums.

There is only one week
until NCI applications are due. For those of you procrastinators out
there, make sure you postmark your application by FRIDAY MARCH 7, 2008!
If you're not familiar
with the program, it's an 8-week summer internship for students
interested in both the Japanese American community and non-profit work
in general. The program runs from June 22 through August 15.
Participants
receive a $2,000 educational scholarship for completion of the program.
That wasn't enough to
convince you? Just take a quick peek over at the website.
There you can find program information, pictures, and the application.
Hope to see you in interviews!

One aspect
of
nikkeiyouth.org that has been lacking in the past is its use for
discussion. Well, those days are in the past! The nikkeiyouth message
board is now live and ready for action. Do you have questions
about
Japantowns? Go to the message board. Do you want to
discuss collegiate issues? Go to the message
board. Got a cold? Go to the doctor! Hopefully we can become
a place that youth come to find community resources, learn about
events, and have meaningful discussions. YAY COMMUNITY!
